We need to do a better of reducing the need for oil by increasing the CAFE standards, that is increasing the fuel efficiency, and find more money for alternative sources. We're currently in essence subsidizing the petroleum industry. I'd like to see a windfall profits tax enacted, but that's highly unlikely at the present time.

On the one hand I want to be mindful of EPA regulations regarding boutique fuels for different areas, at least to consider their potential merits, but there is an inherent problem because they affect the ability to refine and have fuels available nationally or even regionally.

We just have to make our industry more efficient and not so reliant on oil.
