Kimon Kotos: Job security is national
security
Lost in all this debate between Kerry and Bush is that
the people in this country, in Iraq, and
in
Palestine, need jobs. The emphasis on who is stronger is lost on
those who are without. We
have squandered billions of dollars on war and have relied on faulty
intelligence only to make matters worse.
The parallel problems of war and poverty should be alarming to the
American public. The "haves" should care about the "have-nots".
To focus on how we can prove our military strength does not increase
democracy and freedom.
The people of the second district are asking for help. We need a
representative who will us
rove our lives and respond to our socio-economic needs. One more "yes man"
for the Bush agenda only furthers their failed policies. I am running to
represent those who are struggling or do not have a job, and who do not have
health care. I can represent these people because I have been there.
I am one of them.
I
talk to people everyday who live in fear of poverty and uncertainty. I
meet with community leaders and people in business who say that there are not
enough resources to meet the growing needs of their cities and rural areas. I
read in the papers about the job layoffs, closing of libraries and lack of
funding for services. All departments of government that
provide services to people are being cut, and wages are dropping.
The war at home is real. We can't pretend anymore.
Until we get serious about fixing our own problems we have no business
trying to fix everyone else's, and certainly no business creating problems
for others that we are then obligated to fix.
